Why Isn’t My Washing Machine Draining?

If you reach into the washing machine and expect to put damp clothes in the dryer only to find that they are soaked up with wet water in the bottom of the tub, your machine will not empty. If you’ve tried everything else and it still doesn’t drain, call a professional washing machine repair service for help. Finding a washing machine that doesn’t drain water may seem like a big problem, but it raises the thought of having to call in a repairman.

The hose which carries water from dryer to laundry room is one of the first places to look when the washing machine is not running. Socks and other small garments often find their way into the washing machine before the drain hose reaches the drain pump. It is common for small socks or other small clothes to pass water into the drainage system by clogging the hose that connects the pump to the pump.

When the drain hose attached to the washing machine is worn or kinked, the replacement improves the machine’s ability to pump water. If the hose is still in the machine, a bend prevents a working machine from emptying.

You can check the drain pump by removing the drain hose from the back of the washing machine. After checking the pump, you must disconnect the hose so that you do not disconnect the washing machine from the electricity and water. Find an easy solution to this plumbing problem by disconnecting the hose from a front loader and splashing water through the pipe and hose to remove any residues that block the flow of water.

Depending on how your machine is configured, the drainage hose can carry water from a standpipe or drain pipe on the wall or from a large nearby sink. In some washing machine models, a small hose can be inserted to cover the drain so that water can pass through it. If you have a drain pump with filter, lay a towel on the floor or a flat container of baking or crockery next to the washing machine so that the pump can collect the water.

If you exclude the lid switch and drain hose and do not empty your washing machine, the problem could be with the pump or the belt that drives the pump. If the pump makes a noise or you notice an obstacle between the pump and the hose it is possible that the water pump failed and needs to be replaced. This could mean that a loose or broken lid switch prevents the washing machine from being emptied, and it is time to do something about it.
