I Have An Older Refrigerator And It Isn’t Cooling?

If your condenser fan motor is out, you might get a cooler freezer, but not any cooling inside your fridge. If the condenser fan is not working correctly, your fridges temperature can go up, and your compressor can get too hot.

If a refrigerators condenser coils become dirty, it cannot cool the refrigerant enough, and internal temperatures may increase. The condenser coils must be exposed and cleaned in order for them to generate the type of cool that is necessary for the refrigerator to work. Every once in a while, you might want to open the lower or back panels of your refrigerator and clean out the condenser coils in order to ensure that they are able to generate maximum cold.

When the coils on a refrigerator get dirty or gather dust, this may impact your refrigerators ability to perform and keep food and beverages cool. The coils are the most difficult working parts on a fridge, part of the process that takes hot gases and turns them into the cold liquids that make the refrigerator cool.

The compressor is the part of the fridge that compresses and pushes refrigerant vapour to the coils on the outside of the fridge. The two crucial parts of your fridge we mentioned before that keeps your air cool are your compressor.

Your fridge contains two fans, which are an important part of how the device works, and if they are not working, it could be a reason why your refrigerator is not cooling well. Without working fans, it is easy for your fridge to get too hot and stop cooling the way it should. The freezer could function adequately if a malfunctioning air dam is working correctly, but cold air might not get to the fridge.

When an air damper cannot open, cold air cannot travel from the freezer into your fridges compartment, making your fridge warmer. If the air damper cannot shut, or cannot open, then air cooling affects the fridges temperature, whereas the freezer stays at a proper temperature. The air entry damper controls how much cold air flows from your freezer into the refrigerator.

If your evaporator fan is out, no cold air is going to reach your refrigerator. The evaporator fan, located behind the refrigerator wall, circulates cool air through your cooler, and when it stops working, temperatures start rising across the cooler. If the fan starts freezing up again once you power on your fridge again, you probably have a component problem.

If you can hear the compressor running, but the refrigerator is not cooling, then it is more likely that the issue is a frozen-over evaporator coil, or a stuck-or-broken evaporator fan. If a compressor is running in a mini-fridge, then the device may be cooling, just not to where a human would want. If the condenser and compressor are unable to properly exchange heat because of the faulty fan motor in the condenser, the mini fridge can never be as cold as designed.

The job of a condenser fan is to keep the compressor and the coils cool, so if the compressor breaks, then the refrigerator starts heating up. Normally, a fridges condenser fan and compressor, located near the floor in the back of most refrigerators, turn on when the thermostat calls for extra cooling. If the fan and compressor in your cooling system are running, but your fridge or freezer is not cooling properly, check to see if there is a problem with the airflow or the defrost system.

If the fridge believes that it is always opening the doors, then it is not running the condenser hard enough to keep a proper cold temperature. Clogging the refrigerator with too much food will clog the vents, which carry cold air out of the freezer. When that door is not working properly, it may prevent the cold air from flowing to the fridge as much as it needs to in order to keep it at a good temperature. Gasket Around Refrigerator Door The fridge door helps to keep the cold air within the appliance.

The gaskets on the doors help keep fresh air within your refrigerator and keep it from leaking. Gaskets, a pliable, rubbery band that surrounds the edges of your doors designed to keep your doors closed, can break down and let hot or damp air inside your fridge. Even if everything else in your fridge is working properly, if a door seal–also called the door seal–is not working properly, cold air inside the refrigerator could be running out.

The coils are responsible for helping your fridge to cool, so when a coil becomes clogged, it could make the refrigerator function less effectively. It is important to investigate if your fridge has coils in its evaporator. These are coils located underneath or behind the fridge, which cool down and condense refrigerant in the fridge.

The evaporator fan is responsible for pulling the cold air out from the other set of coils and spreading it around the whole unit — first in the freezer, and then in the cooler (or fresh produce section). The condenser fan is located in the cupboard on the bottom of the fridge, next to the compressor and condenser coils (note that cooler models that feature coils at the rear, rather than at the bottom, will not have the fan).

To ensure the whole refrigerator is kept at its optimal cool temperature, airflow is necessary to the compartments in the fridge. The temperature of the air inside the fridge is maintained by a number of interior and exterior vents.

In this situation, the suppression would greatly limit your fridges ability to maintain cold temperatures. It is a bad idea to fill the refrigerator too much with deli goods, as the air circulation can become limited.
