My Fridge Ice Maker Not Making Ice But Water Works?

The ice maker gets its water through a small supply line running from the fridge into the tubing, hose, or filtration unit. While you can get to the water intake valve and the water supply line, it is good to test water pressure, which is also a common source of problems with ice makers. To check water pressure, pull out the water supply line from behind the fridge, place it on top of a bucket or container, then open the water supply and test for a good flow.

If the water inlet valve has adequate pressure and is receiving power, but the ice maker is not filling up with water to produce ice, replace the water inlet valve. Over time, the water inlet valve may get clogged with mineral deposits and will not open, which prevents the ice maker and the dispenser from working. Without filters, or with filters installed incorrectly in filter housings, water does not reach the fridge and the water dispenser.

Because water must pass through the filter, water cannot pass through it when it is filled with debris. If water flows better out of your water spigot, your filter is clogged and needs replacing. If the filter is older than six months, it is probably already clogged, which will limit the flow of water, possibly disabling the ice maker.

Not changing the water filter, or allowing it to clog, may result in the ice maker malfunctioning. In some cases, the fridge might even be designed to stop dispensing ice or water once your filter is past the “Replacement By” date, which could make the fridges ice maker appear not to work. If your Bosch fridge has a removable water filter, it is possible that you will have to replace the filter, or that the one you installed is incorrect.

If the water or ice looks dirty, this is a strong indicator the water filter needs replacing. Eventually, anything filtered from the tap water prior to becoming ice eventually clogs the filter. If your water lines are clogged, the water cannot come out, and your ice does not get made. If a whole load of ice gets stuck, there is no way to form any more ice, and your water line may also cause problems because it cannot refill your tub.

A blockage in a line or closed valve can easily cause an unexpected ice shortage if new ice cannot be formed. In some cases, an ice machine will produce cubes that are either too small (in the absence of a water-line clog) or too large. There may be a few reasons why your ice maker may not produce enough ice, including a lack of water pressure, or a crack in your waterline. If your ice makers fill pipe is overflowing with ice, you may have a problem with your home water pressure requiring that the water flow to your ice maker remain high, or you may have dirt or defects on your water intake valve.

For a water inlet valve to function correctly and deliver water to an ice maker, water inlet valves need between 20 to 120 PSI. If you have a very low thermostat, your whole ice maker may suffer, which will result in the water freezing before it gets to the molds that create ice.

If an ice makers bin or bucket has frozen, depending on how much ice has built up, you may have to defrost your whole cooler, remove ice makers components so they defrost, or apply low-temperature heat with a hairdryer on affected components. If using a hairdryer to defrost ice, be sure to only use low heat, and not hold the hairdryer in one place (make sure it is moving), because heat will damage refrigerator components. If your fridge and freezer are too hot, you may have to clear debris from condenser coils in the bottom of your fridge, or clean ice accumulation from evaporator blowers in the back of your freezer. Ice buildup can be thawed with a warm dishcloth, a hairdryer, a defrost tool, or a defrost function, if your model has one.

You can defrost your lines using the hairdryer, or let the cooler sit unplugged for up to two hours. Always hold your hair dryer over a source of water to prevent electric shock.
Before you reach your water line, turn off power to your whole cooler and shut the water off. Restore power to the refrigerator and listen to the water flow filling up with mold. Make sure that the water supply is connected correctly to the cold water source, and that the water shutoff valve is completely opened. Here, in the freezing chamber, place towels on the floor to catch any water or ice that might drop as the testing pattern is running.

A bit of hot water (with a towel on hand for mucking) will melt away any ice accumulations. Warm water melts the ice bits that are trapped, and does not add chemicals to your ice maker bowl — making it safer for you to start making ice again right in your maker. Sometimes water will fill up too much of the tray, causing the water to freeze over where ice is being formed, before falling in the ice container. A blockage, leak, or breakage in a water supply can make my ice machine shut down automatically or otherwise stop working.

There is only one water line into the fridge; however, the refrigerator has two plastic water lines running from a dual water valve into your fridges ice maker and the water dispenser.
