If you want to test your washing machine, open the lid, let it turn and top it up. Too much dumping can lead to an unbalanced load that scratches and clanks, preventing the disc from spinning. When it spins, the clothing gets sucked through, which means that your belt is damaged and the system is not spinning properly.

If your washing machine does not spin and the motor does not get power, you should check the lid switch. When you close the top loader lid, the switch is activated, which signals that the machine is moving during the washing cycle. Check the tab on the lid that hits the lid switch, because if it is defective, the disc will stop emptying during the cycle.

There is a special safety feature that connects the lid switch and prevents the disc from turning. This means that a damaged lid switch can affect the rotation cycle of your disc. The disc will not budge if the lid switch is defective.

If the rotor fails or is damaged, the disc does not rotate or move. If it does not move, the rotor unit at the back of the tub could be worse off or damaged. If a disc does not move, you may need to reset your washing machine motor.

If the problem persists, disconnect the power supply from the washing machine for 1 minute, reconnect it and try again by starting the previous cycle at each setting (press Start, select Drain or Spin and press Start). If your washing machine is functioning normally and the motor of the washing machine is cool, the problem has cleared. The disc may not budge because the motor or control panel is defective.

If the washing machine is stored in sub-zero temperatures, the water in the pump freezes and blocks the motor. The disc can be overloaded and the engine clutch fails to protect the engine gearbox.

If your washer fills with water but does not agitate or spin, the problem is more likely a defective lid or switch, a broken belt or motor. A broken drive belt, such as one that slips off the pulley or wheel, can cause the pulley to move during the wash cycle due to the noise of the running motor while the pulley rotates during the cycle.

Another reason why a disc does not move or rotate is a gearbox failure. A plastic flap can break in the disc and stop the spin cycle.

The drive block connects the disc gearbox to the agitator, and when the block wears out, the gearbox moves, but the agitator stays in motion. If the machine does not move or rotate, the tub of many models can be filled and emptied with a timer beforehand.

Probably a defective drive motor is the reason why the disc does not move or rotate. If the motor is not running properly or there is a good connection to a power source, a breaker can prevent the washing machine from spinning properly.

Being there are so many parts and functions of the washing machine that can fail or become defective it is usually best to leave these repairs to qualified technicians.
