Why Is My Dishwasher Not Starting?

To help you find and fix the cause of your dishwasher starting up, we’ve done a little troubleshooting. Power problems, a wrong cycle setting, or a door that won’t close can prevent the dishwasher from starting. The cause could be a power issue that is causing the dishwasher not to turn on.

Sometimes the latch may not work properly and prevent the door from locking in place, preventing the dishwasher from starting. If you find that your LG dishwasher does not start after closing the door, the door latch may not be locked. Some of the most common issues with a dishwasher that won’t start are related to the door latch or door switch.

The dishwasher will not start unless the dishwasher door is properly closed and locked. The start switch may not work properly, so even with the correct settings and the latch closed, the dishwasher will not start. If you’ve checked the latch and the power supply, the problem could be with the start switch itself.

If the latch locks correctly, the door switch may have an electrical problem. To check if the door switch is faulty, unplug it from the dishwasher and check for continuity with a multimeter.

If the dishwasher door does not close properly, you may need to unscrew the panel around it to inspect the part. If the switches or their connection to the control panel is damaged, the door may need to be dismantled and replaced.

If the selection buttons are not fully pressed, this may also result in the dishwasher not working. Unplug the dishwasher and remove the inner door panel to find the switch.

Make sure the dishwasher is unplugged before proceeding. Make sure the dishwasher is properly connected to a working outlet using a standard cord. Make sure your home’s water supply is open and the dishwasher’s hose is properly connected to the water supply.

If your dishwasher isn’t drying enough or won’t start on command, make sure you’ve selected the correct setting. Make sure your dishwasher doesn’t need an extra switch to turn it on. Be sure to turn off the dishwasher or turn off the power inside the electrical panel before checking the electrical components.

If your dishwasher is connected to household power, turn off the dishwasher switch in the switch box. Check your dishwasher for water leaks or faulty plugs and cables that could cause the circuit breaker to trip. You can also check the electrical switch box to make sure the switch that controls the dishwasher is working properly (also check for frayed or damaged areas on the cord). If you find that your dishwasher does not drain properly or does not start properly, the timer or its connection to the internal control panel may have failed.

In the event of a malfunction, the control board will not supply the power needed to run the dishwasher and will need to be professionally replaced. In the event of a malfunction of the main control board, none of the functions of the dishwasher will receive the necessary power to start. If the engine start relay fails, the rest of the dishwasher will not receive the “Start” signal from the control panel. If the dishwasher door latch fails mechanically or electronically, it will not send a signal to the internal control panel and the dishwasher will not turn on.

If the door continues to open in the middle of a cycle, the latch assembly is likely damaged and needs to be replaced. Even when the latch closes properly, sometimes the microswitch may not signal to the machine that the door is closed and locked. If the latch breaks, the door will no longer be able to click and hold it closed, meaning the dishwasher cannot start and operate safely.

The door switch allows you to turn on the dishwasher only if the dishwasher door is closed properly. The door latch switch tells the dishwasher that the door is closed and it is safe to start the water supply. To check and replace the start switch, you will need to disassemble the dishwasher door.

The latch should make an audible click when installed, indicating that the door is closed and signaling that the dishwasher has started. A Whirlpool dishwasher that won’t start even with the door tightly closed may have a latch failure. Troubleshooting a Whirlpool dishwasher that won’t start may involve a simple adjustment to change settings, or professional repairs to troubleshoot parts.

Read on to find out what’s stopping your Whirlpool dishwasher from starting/ending a cycle and what you can do to fix each problem. The most common reasons for a Whirlpool dishwasher not completing a cycle are a malfunctioning door latch, overloading, and no water supply. Whirlpool Dishwasher may not start/end a cycle due to easily fixable problems such as no water supply and control lock/sleep mode and overload.

An important step in troubleshooting a KitchenAid dishwasher is to check if the problem could be related to a water supply problem. Whether the error is due to a faulty door latch or a blown thermal fuse, our dishwasher troubleshooting guide will show you why your KitchenAid dishwasher won’t start. If the previous troubleshooting tips didn’t solve the problem and your dishwasher still won’t start, it’s best to contact a certified technician to fix the problem.

If you find that your Electrolux dishwasher won’t start or fill with water even though it’s on, there may be a problem with the water supply. A dishwasher that won’t stop filling with water may have a faulty float switch, a stuck timer during filling, or a stuck open water supply valve.

Finally, check if the child safety setting has been accidentally activated, this will also prevent the dishwasher from starting. Refer to the user manual to determine how to disable the control lock on your model dishwasher.
