My Refrigerator Stopped Cooling And Now Won’t Start At All?

When your refrigerators blower is running, that means both your defrost timer and your coolers cooling controls are set to COLD. The cold control is the temperature-control switch that supplies electricity to the compressor and fan circuits in your refrigerator. If either of the fans is out, or if the compressor is not powered, then the refrigerator offers very little or no cooling.

If the fridge does not turn on, and the fans are not running, you might have a faulty control. If your condenser fan motor is not working, then you might be getting colder fridge, but not cooling at all at the freezer. If the condenser fan is not working correctly, your fridges temperature can go up, and your compressor can get too hot.

The condenser fan blows air across the condenser coils to keep them from freezing, which, in turn, helps the refrigerator cool down to its proper temperature. If you change out your condenser fan, then you need to test whether or not your refrigerator is cooling down correctly now.

If the refrigerator fan is still working, but the refrigerator is not getting any cooler, it may be that either your compressor or the compressor startup relay is bad. If the refrigerator is not cooling, but the freezer is working properly, then it is likely that a problem is located around the evaporator fan. If the evaporator fan does not operate, or does not turn on while the compressor is running, then your appliance is unable to generate cooling air.

If you adjust your fridges thermostat for extra cool air, the fridges compressor kicks in, forcing less air to flow through the cooling fan. Your fridge contains two fans, which are an important part of how your appliance works, and if they are not working, it could be a reason why your refrigerator is not cooling well. Without working fans, it is easy for your fridge to get too hot and stop cooling the way it should.

If you installed your refrigerator inside your garage, the refrigerator might not cool well, since garages do not have controlled weather like those in homes. Since your fridge is designed to keep food and beverages cool, we understand how frustrating it can be when the refrigerator is not cool enough. It is no wonder when your fridge starts running hot, stops cooling the right way, leaking water, or suddenly goes from being a silent appliance to being loud, you might understandably get anxious about whether your hard-working appliance is going to give up.

In general, fridge problems could make for a heavy-duty troubleshooting manual, but we are going to focus on the most probable causes for a unit that is just going out of business.

A Fridgidaire fridge not cooling well might have dirty or damaged seals, which allows cold air to escape while hot air is trapped inside. If your condenser coils are dirty, your fridge has to work harder to dump heat. The coil is the most difficult working part on a fridge, part of the process of taking hot gases and turning them into cool liquids, which makes the fridge cool.

The compressor is the part of the fridge that compresses and pushes refrigerant vapor to the coils on the outside of the fridge. The compressor compresses refrigerant, and then makes sure that the refrigerant is distributed correctly across your refrigerator. There are coils located underneath or behind your refrigerator which cools down your refrigerator and condenses it.

Every fridge has an evaporator system, which is made up of cooling coils that remove heat from the appliance, and a fan to chill these coils. The fan in the evaporator, it circulates cool air through the refrigerator, and when it stops working, temperatures start rising through the entire fridge. The evaporator fans job is to pull cold air out from a different set of coils and circulate throughout the whole unit – first in the freezer, and then in the cooler (or fresh produce section).

The condenser fans job is to keep the compressor and coils cool, so that if the compressor breaks, the fridge starts heating up. The Temperature Control Thermostat sends a voltage to the fan motors of your refrigerators evaporator, condenser, and compressor as needed. The evaporator fan helps to circulate air from your freezer into the refrigerator, helping keep your cooler cold.

People often place food items in front of vents at the back of their fridge, without knowing these vents are crucial for airflow through the entire refrigerator, thereby keeping the units cool. If boxes of food are blocking the vents, the cold air may get blocked from flowing throughout the fridge. Even if everything else in your fridge is working properly, if a door seal–also called the door gasket–is not working properly, cool air inside the refrigerator may escape.

Frozen ice accumulation inside your freezer could also be blocking the ventilation, decreasing or blocking the cool air that gets to your coolers compartment. If anything blocks the cold air, this could cause uneven temperatures inside the refrigerated compartment. If you disrupt your defrost process, your fridges airflow worsens over time, causing your refrigerator not to chill as well.

Often, people unknowingly will plug their ventilation ducts, either by keeping food inside, or by keeping other items (i.e. A closed-loop refrigerant loop draws heat and moisture out of an internal storage area, mostly the freezer, and runs it through a series of coils, which pull the heat out and scatter it back into the air.
