My Refrigerator Is Leaking Water From The Back?

If your fridge is constantly leaking water or making a loud noise, you might be wondering whether or not it is time for you to replace it.

If your fridge has a water cooler or an ice maker, it is possible the water line has either leaked or is bent, which will result in the fridge pouring water out of the back and on the kitchen floor.

Water leaking from an ice makers water-supply line may pool under the freezer and move toward the front, making it appear as though the water is leaking from within the fridge. If your fridge has an ice maker or a water dispenser, it is possible the water lines feeding it are clogged or frozen.

Inlet tubing leading to ice maker The ice maker may also be the source of the leaking refrigerator unit, should it get clogged. You can check the ice makers valve, usually located at the back of the refrigerator, to see if it is leaking.

If the leak is coming from the back of the fridge, and you found it right after using the water feature if applicable, or the ice maker was just filled, you have a leak at the water intake valve. To find out if an inlet valve is the problem, shut the water off at the saddle valve, usually located in your refrigerators basement, and unplug the hose that delivers the water. Now that you have the needed materials, start fixing the issue by finding the valve connecting the appliance to your copper water supply.

If the connection is tight, but you are still seeing leaks, you may have to replace the water line altogether. Replacing a water line the wrong way could result in major damage, so call a plumber if you need it.

If you cannot determine what is causing the leaks, or if the problem continues, the best thing to do is to call professional fridge repair. Hopefully, one of these five reasons has solved the problem of your fridge leaking water, but if it has not, then you might be dealing with a bigger issue and need to call in the repairman. If you notice that water is pouring out of the LG refrigerator, this could be doing all sorts of damage to your house, which is why it is important that you address the issue right away.

You should not ignore a leaky fridge, as water damage could cost you a lot of money in flooring repairs and other expenses. You do not want to allow moisture damage to continue for too long, or you may eventually need to replace the refrigerator altogether. A leaking fridge is not just an inconvenience; it is a safety threat as well, unless you take care of that puddle of water in an appropriate way.

If you just bought a fridge, moved to a new house, or have recently had a kitchen floor repaved, it is likely that just moving your appliance has caused it to begin leaking water.

A fridge will naturally leak water, but that should collect in the pot underneath the fridge, where it can safely evaporate and not saturate your floors. Your fridges drainage pan captures some of the water that your refrigerator leaks naturally, helping prevent damage and slippage on the floor. When your fridge goes into the defrost cycle, the water from melting ice gathers in a pot, then runs off a blocked defrost drain.

The water in your defrost pan needs to vaporize in-between regular, automatic defrost cycles of your fridge. Then, defrost water will spill out of the vents on your next defrost cycle, and then you will see water inside the fridge. The defrost feature found in all modern fridges melts this frozen buildup, and the water flows from the evaporator in the freezer down to a drainage pipe at the bottom of the fresh produce compartment.

The drain tube may become clogged by ice or debris, causing the water to re-flow and spill back into the fridge. The tubing running across the back of your refrigerator may be coming from the rear of your fresh produce compartment, which in your fridge has a small tray, approximately 2 inches square, which captures the water dripping out of your freezer compartment. The header at the back is connected to the water valve, which is usually located at the bottom of the rear portion of the fridge, near the bottom.

Whether the water is coming out the freezer compartment, coming out of the fresh produce compartment, coming out of the underside of the refrigerator, or coming from leaking out of the back.

If you notice that there is a puddle of water forming directly in front of the fridge, or if you notice that there is water coming out of the fresh food compartment when you open it, then you are having an issue with your drainage lines. If your fridge is on the right level, and your drain lines are not blocked, but you are still seeing the puddle every day, your water line may have the issue.

If you are still unable to see water coming out of your frost drainage pipe anymore, there may still be blockage. Blockages occur when food particles or other debris get caught in drain lines, causing the buildup of ice, which ultimately causes water to drain from your freezer and fridge. When your defrost hose, located in the back of the freezer in most fridges, gets blocked, whether it is from food particles, frozen dinner piles, ice, or a combination–your appliances need to run overtime once more.

Water system lines If the water is coming from the bottom back of the fridge, but the intake seems to work fine, there is a chance the lines inside the fridge are faulty. Other causes for your leaking fridge could be incorrect installations (such as the water filter) or damaged hardware, such as a cracked drainage pan.
