My Ice Maker Has Now Failed To Make Ice?

The placement of your water inlet valve depends on the manufacturer, but the Kenmore Ice Maker water inlet valve and Whirlpool Ice Makers are usually located behind the fridge. If valve solenoid fails either mechanically or electrically, the valve will not open water lines to your ice maker. If the water intake valve has adequate pressure and is receiving power, but ice maker is not filling water for making ice, change water intake valve. If the water inlet valve is faulty or does not receive sufficient pressure, then the ice maker cannot function normally.

If the water valve is in a closed position, or it becomes blocked, the water will not get to the ice maker. If your water valve becomes corroded, worn, or just stuck, this will stop the ice maker from working. The water supply lines can be checked at where the water supply lines attach to the rear of the cooler, as well as the location of where they attach to the ice makers within the cooler. Turn on the water supply again and see if a solid stream of water is coming from the supply line.

If so, you might also want to test the water pressure in the fridge, because a low water pressure can cause your fill pipe to freeze. Back-up ice may cause the fill pipe of your water to freeze, so it is possible that the problem is with the valve that is malfunctioning if the fill pipe is freezing over again after defrosting. If the fill pipe of an ice maker is frozen, it could be because you need more water pressure from the home to allow water to enter the ice maker, or there may be mud or defects in the water intake valve. The water inlet valve is one of the more likely culprits for why your ice maker stops working, particularly if you have found that your ice maker is empty of potential ice.

The water inlet valve is an electrically controlled valve that opens in order to provide water for both your water dispenser and the ice maker. Make sure once the inlet valve is unplugged you have a towel or bucket under it to catch any extra water. Some coolers are designed to stop dispensing ice or water when you need a change of water filter. Some GE fridges have a sensor or a timer that will stop the ice machine from working when the water filter needs changing.

If everything fails, one of the reasons why your ice maker is not working correctly is because of a clogged water filter. If you neglect to change your filter, it may collect debris and get clogged, blocking water flow to the ice maker. When replacing your water filter, you will have to flush out the system before it works properly.

The water filter needs to be replaced every six months or so in order to keep water flowing properly and ensure the quality of your water. Once the new filter is installed, let it run a few cycles of ice making before using ice. Usually, changing your water filter is a simple matter of opening up your lid, twisting it off, and pulling out your old filter, and then twisting the new one into place.
To make sure that you get clear ice and water flowing freely, you should replace your water filters in the freezer according to manufacturer recommendations.

If your ice maker uses water which is passed through the water filter, and you are using lots of ice, then you will have to change your water filter more frequently. This could keep the ice maker from getting the proper amount of water needed to create ice, and it could actually produce ice cubes. The changes will make sure you are never dispensing contaminated or sub-standard ice, or drinking from your refrigerator that is unsafe or tastes terrible.

If you are in no hurry, try turning off your fridge for up to two hours and let the ice thaw naturally. Your fridge needs the air within the freezer at a specific temperature in order to be able to make ice to a suitable extent. When your fridge has little to no food in it, it has to work harder to keep a consistent, cold temperature needed to make ice. The main reasons why the freezers ice maker is running slowly are improper temperature settings, too much or too little food inside, and a clogged waterline or filter.

A malfunction in the fan motor for the evaporator fan that properly circulates air within a freezer, or frost on evaporator coils that limit airflow, can also stop an ice maker from working correctly, because of increased temperatures. You may try defrosting the ice maker using small amounts of hot water, but it might not solve the root issue. Depending on where ice jams or freezing has occurred, you might be able to fix the issue using a hot-water dishcloth, blow dryer, the defrost feature, or a defrost tool. While rebooting or cleaning the ice maker may be the solution in many cases, if the parts are truly defective, rebooting your ice maker is not going to solve the problem, as it does not magically repair faulty parts.

If the off switch is actually still working, but your ice maker is never unable to produce ice while powered on, your problem is not the off switch, it is actually the scoop. If you push down on a lever on your ice maker, but no sound comes out, it is likely an issue with the motor that is responsible for turning the scoop. If the sensing blade is malfunctioning, it will not stop producing ice as soon as your bucket is full, and then ice will leak into your freezer.

If this is an issue with the water valve, then this is a problem of the valve not closing and continuing to disperse the water. If your water filtration system is frozen or otherwise malfunctioning, you may notice that there is no ice, or extremely small pieces of ice, when looking into the ice maker.
