Why Is My Dishwasher Refusing To Start?

It is not always clear why your dishwasher is refusing to boot, or whether this is a problem with the repair, or if it is a deliberate safety feature. If the dishwasher stopped halfway through a cycle once, and is refusing to start again, a blown fuse is the first thing you will want to look for. There are a few reasons your dishwasher is refusing to start, but the most likely culprits include the door latch assembly, electric control timer, switch, and thermal fuse. Another common reason your dishwasher might not turn on is if the door is not fully closed.

If the door is not fully closed, then your dishwashers machine will not power on, or it will not begin the cycle. If the latch breaks, the door cannot latch shut anymore, meaning that the dishwasher cannot safely start and operate. Sometimes, a latch may fail and stop the door from locking in place, which will stop the dishwasher from starting. If your dishwashers door does not latch correctly, or the door latch switch is broken, the controls in the dishwasher may not get the electrical power needed to make the appliance start and operate normally.

If your electrical timer controls are bad, then the timers will not get the power needed to begin a cycle, preventing your appliances from turning on. If a timer control, or its connection to a control panel, is broken, your dishwasher may not begin, as it is first timer will never begin. If The Motor Start Relay is malfunctioning, then the rest of the dishwasher does not receive a “Go” signal from the control panel. If Your dishwasher Motor Start Relay is not working, your dishwasher will not receive a Green Light from the Control Panel to begin washing.

Your starter switch may malfunction, so even though your settings are correct and the latch is closed, your dishwasher will not start. When a motor failure occurs, not only does water stop running in the dishwasher, the dishwasher might not even start (depending on the brand). If your dishwasher has power, but it still does not start when you ask it to, you might be running out of water.

If your dishwasher is already connected, but it is still not working, it could have an electrical breaker problem. Remember to disconnect the dishwasher, or disconnect the power from inside your electric panel, before checking the electrical components. If power is not an issue, be sure to disconnect the dishwasher from its power supply or switch off its associated circuit breaker before proceeding with the next steps; failing to do so can put you at risk of getting an electric shock.

A quick way to start up your GE dishwasher is to ensure that it is properly connected to the power supply. Another reason why your GE dishwasher may not be starting is because it is not getting the water it needs to work. If you started a dishwasher on the full setting, but came back and it was not running, that may be just a coincidence.

When the dishwasher stops midway through a washing cycle, and does not restart properly, it may be stuck in this cycle, unable to begin another. If a timer is malfunctioning, it might fail to send the dishwasher a signal to begin, rinse, or drain at the correct time during the wash cycle. You might also find a switch on the box labeled dishwasher, which you can turn off and back on again to check whether the dishwasher is getting the electricity needed to operate, or whether it is resetting itself after you have switched power.

You might also want to inspect the electrical breaker box to make sure that the breaker controlling the dishwasher is working properly (also check for frayed or damaged areas on the wires). Check to see if your dishwasher has any leaks in water, or any plugs or faulty wiring which could cause it to trip your circuit breaker. To check whether the door switch is defective, remove the door switch from the dishwasher and check continuity with a multimeter.

If the selector switches or their connections to the control panel are damaged, you may have to take off the doors and replace them. To access selector switches, you will have to take apart your dishwashers doors, especially the interior door panels. After loading the dishwasher, choose the cycle from the control panel, push Start, and close the door.

To shut down a Whirlpool dishwasher, hold down the lock button for four seconds (the locking indicator light should go off). If you push any buttons when dishwasher controls are locked, control lock lights will blink three times. When your Whirlpool dishwasher has lights on, but is not starting, you must open the door and press the combo of Heat Dry, Normal, Heat Dry, Normal. To turn off demonstration mode, find the Start and Heater Dry buttons on your dishwasher, press both buttons together for five seconds.

To fix this problem, disconnect your dishwasher, and then look behind the interior door for a thermal fuse that will connect via two wires to the control boards. A thermal fuse that is tripped or blown may help to prevent a fire initiation, but may also make it impossible for the dishwasher to function normally. If a thermal fuse is blown, your control panel does not get electricity, which causes the dishwasher not to run. If your Frigidaire dishwasher does not start, but it has power, Electrolux (the maker of this brand) suggests checking that no racks are sticking out, and no dishes are blocking the doors.
