My Refrigerator Works But Freezer Is Broken?

One of the major problems with the fridge is when you discover the freezer is still cold, but other areas are hot. When your refrigerator is not cold, but your freezer is, then it is likely the issue is due to one of the mechanisms of your refrigerator malfunctioning. If your freezer is cold, but the refrigerator is hot, then the parts cooling your fridge and freezer may be working correctly.

Obviously, the freezer will work properly in this example, but the refrigerator will be too hot.
If either fan is out, or if the compressor is off, then the fridge would provide very little or no cooling. Most of the time, the compressor fan should be working as well, as long as the fan in the freezer is working. Plug in your refrigerator, and check that the condenser fan is running while the compressor is running. The evaporator fan is located in the refrigerators freezer compartment, but it helps to circulate all of that cold air through the whole unit.

Both sides of your LG refrigerator are chilled thanks to the cold air being pulled across the evaporator coils by a fan, which then circulates air across both sides. The fan motor in the evaporator draws air over the evaporator coils and circulates it through the freezer, if it does not do its job, the freezer does not cool. A small fan and motor are mounted near the evaporator, helping draw air over the coils and circulating it through the refrigerator and freezer. If the fan is not running at the evaporator, then the fridge may still get cool from the refrigerant, but will not be circulating to the larger refrigerator.

If The evaporator fan is out, your freezer or fridge is not cooling properly. If the evaporator coil is frozen, the airflow over the evaporator coils will be restricted, which may result in your fridge not cooling. If the coils are malfunctioning, it can be extremely hard to keep your cooler cold. One of the biggest reasons why the fridge is not cooling, but the freezer is, is if the coils of the evaporator are not working in order.

When your refrigerator is not cooling but freezer works, you want to fix the issue ASAP. If there is frost accumulation somewhere in the system, your freezer should still function normally, but the fridge is going to be warmer. If your LG fridge is not getting cold, but the freezer is, try moving the timer dial to the defrost cycle.

If your surroundings are too cold, your freezer might not receive enough time to keep temperature. If your freezer is placed in an area that is too warm or cold, the freezer must work harder to maintain its proper temperature, and this may lead to defects developing. If your freezer starts to produce ice in the wrong places, like in vents or the evaporator coils, it could mean that you have a freezer at the correct temperature, but you have a fridge that is too warm. If your evaporator coils freeze up, then necessary air cannot get past them, which could cause the freezer not to ice properly.

Frost that is only building on the back side of the freezer section, where your evaporator coils are, indicates a problem in your defrost cycle. This means that the freezer is not producing cold enough air to thaw the contents of the freezer, but that it is producing cold enough air to chill the contents of the cooler section.

If a ducting assembly becomes damaged, blocked, or simply stops working over time, there is not enough cold air being forced through to the refrigerator section. It is standard to find that most fridges use a fan to push the cold air from the freezer to an evaporator, which is then forced to the fridge area to maintain the cold temperature. The fan from the evaporator, which circulates cold air through the fridge, will begin to raise temperatures across the fridge as soon as it stops working. Located behind the ventilation opening within the refrigerator, usually at the back of your refrigerator, the evaporator fan circulates cold air.

Checking it might seem basic, but a freezer packed to the gills can create an airflow obstruction, especially if your evaporator fan is covered with tubs of ice cream or bags of vegetables. To prevent an evaporation, make sure that the bag of food storage you are using is designed specifically for a freezer. To get your fridge temporarily working, take off the back of your fridge and wipe off any built-up frost (pouring warm water on your evaporator coils is best). The best way to fix this is to take the fridge out from the wall slightly and take a look at the coils.

The coils are the most difficult working part on a fridge, part of the process that takes warm gas and turns it into the cold liquid that makes your refrigerator cool. When your freezer fans are running, that means your refrigerators defrost timer and cooling controls are all set to COOL.

If the refrigerator compartment is freezing its contents, even with the cold control set to the lowest setting, it is very likely that a faulty fridge temperature sensor or cold control is to blame. If you can hear the compressor running, but the fridge is not cooling, then the problem is most likely either frost-clogged evaporator coils or a stuck or broken evaporator fan. Whether you have a fridge/freezer combo or chest-style freezer — no matter what lights, ice makers, or extra features you add — any coolers cooling system works the same.
