My Ice Maker Is Totally Frozen?

A fridges ice maker freezing can be caused by the ice makers froze fill pipe, the faulty water intake valve, the freezers temperature setting being too low, or the water filter requiring replacement. The most common LG fridge ice maker problems are caused by temperature fluctuations (in the ice maker compartment), faulty water inlet valve, ice maker failure, malfunctioning control panel, or defective freezer-unit ice maker fan. Faulty water inlet valves control water inflow to the ice maker, located at the back of your fridge, behind the rear access panel. Sometimes, defective water inlet valves go bad and fill your ice tray too high when not needed.

Because of the bad inlet valve, water may fill up the ice molds and leak everywhere around the area of the Samsung Ice Maker. Without filters, or when filters are installed incorrectly into filter housings, water cannot get into your fridge and water dispenser. Low water flow means that ice machines cannot dump the ice from the evaporator plates. Low water flow will result in the ice maker being unable to get the cubes off the evaporator plate — they will eventually accumulate and result in freeze-up.

If all of the ice cubes within the mold are not cleared often, they may melt and re-freeze. The ice may partly melt and freeze back together, creating large chunks of ice, or pieces too small to sweep are all that remains at the bottom of the mold. An older ice bin, with lots of layers of older ice at the bottom, may result in the resulting mutilation of new ice when it is dropped. This issue happens more frequently for those that either rarely use ice (the bin gets too full and freezes all together) or very often (nothing except for the chips from ice).

A crack in a waterline, for instance, could result in a stoppage of water, preventing an ice bin from being filled. If your water lines are blocked with mineral deposits or are too small, water lines cannot provide an adequate water flow for the ice machine. If the water filter is clogged, you can see the line and the ice machine stopping. Clogs and buildup may clog up your waterline, and it is possible to get your water valve behind your refrigerator to close completely.

Blocking of a waterline completely or partially prevents water from flowing through your fridges waterline. The electrical lines and the water inlet pipe run both through the opening at the rear of the refrigerator. A smaller one leads to a valve that refills water into the refrigerator, controlled by the thermostat on the ice maker. If you find the frozen lines, disconnect your fridge and disconnect the water line.

Locate the water shutoff valve behind your refrigerator or below your sink, turn it off, unscrew the copper line behind the refrigerator, place the copper line into a bucket, open the valve, and see if the water comes out. If possible, unplug the water supply lines from your refrigerator, and thaw your ice with the sink. Use a small funnel and hot water to melt frozen intake tubes, or unplug the pipes and thaw them in your sink. If your inlet tube is not frozen, then your next step is to test your water filter or the freezer temp.

You might have to take off your ice maker to see that tube and to test whether or not it is frozen. Even when your fridge is kept cool, your water inlet pipe to your ice maker may get frozen, stopping your entire appliance before it even gets started. You might have to change your water filter, and if the freezer is really too cold, try turning up the temperature. We often forget that refrigerators have water filters, too, but they are what ensure your ice made by your freezer is safe for melting into drinks.

Changing the water filter every 6 months can help to prevent blockages, which could slow ice production. It is possible for the filter to get clogged with contaminants and limit water flow into your Samsung Ice Maker, resulting in reduced ice output. Another problem that you have to think about is the fact that the water filter might be causing your problem with your ice production. If an entire load of ice becomes clogged in your ice makers bin, this will stop the new load from being formed, and your water line could also get clogged, which will stop your bin from being completely filled.

If the lines supplying water to your ice maker are frozen, this is a sign of either your entire system being too cold, or that your refrigerator itself is exposed to outside temperatures that are too cold, both situations leading to over-freezing. If the ice maker is not making any ice, but you see the ice-ejection arm move around, and you hear a whirring sound for around 10 seconds, then your water valve is asking for water, which is not coming. The water fill valve is turned on for a couple of seconds to refill the ice mold, and the cycle repeats.

To repair get your hairdryer and set it to Medium-low, blasting hot air into the Water Inlet Pipe until any collected ice has melted and trickled down. Then take out the Ice Bin, empty the Ice Bin, and wash all of the old ice with hot water. A bad faucet valve–the small piece of hardware that attaches your ice makers water supply line to your water line–can create problems in which your ice makers water supply line attaches to your water line.
