In the event of a malfunction, the control board will not supply the power required to start the dishwasher and will need to be replaced by a professional. If the timer control is interrupted or the connection to the control panel is interrupted, the dishwasher may not start because the first timer never starts. If the timer is defective, the dishwasher may not receive power to start and must be replaced by a service technician. In some cases, restarting the dishwasher can solve the power problem.
If your dishwasher has a power cord, make sure that it is plugged in correctly and that the dishwasher is plugged into a working outlet properly with a standard cord. Check the circuit breaker and mains connection to make sure the dishwasher is receiving power.
Make sure hot water is on and the dishwasher is turning on, if needed check under the sink, if the dishwasher does not dry enough or does not start on command, make sure you select the correct setting. Models with a delay button allow you to start the dishwasher immediately, however, washing will not start until the specified number of hours has elapsed.
This timer is also connected to the control panel and if the connection is interrupted it will need to be restored. If the fuse fails the multimeter test, it is blown and needs replacement to start the dishwasher.
This is what tells the dishwasher that the door is closed and that the water supply can be safely started. If the latch breaks the door will no longer click and remain closed, which means that the dishwasher can no longer start and operate safely. If the door does not close properly, the latch may be broken and you won’t be able to keep the door tight closed.
Sometime the latch may not work properly and interfere with the door locking, preventing the dishwasher from starting and may have a broken seal that prevents it from properly closing.
If it is defective, the dishes may not be cleaned and the dishwasher may not start. You may have a faulty motor if your dishwasher won’t start after the starter relay has energized it.
To check and replace the starter switch, you will need to remove the dishwasher door. To reset the GE dishwasher, press the Start / Reset button on the selection bar – If this doesn’t work – see the manufacturer’s instructions for resetting the dishwasher – Hold the start button or turn off the machine for a minute or two.
The Start switch may not work properly, so even if the settings are correct and the latch is closed the dishwasher will not start, if the dishwasher door is not correctly closed and locked, always close the door securely and without slamming to engage the latch.
A Whirlpool dishwasher that does not start even with the door closed may have a malfunctioning latch. The last reason your Frigidaire dishwasher won’t start could be a broken door latch, which protects the door from leaks and must be attached to start the wash cycle, the often protruding basket of the dishwasher prevents the door from opening.
If your Frigidaire dishwasher does not start, but is receiving power, Electrolux (the manufacturer of this brand) recommends checking for protruding baskets or dishes blocking the door. To get started, make sure the dishwasher is clean by checking the tensioning net, spray arms and door seal for food, grease and other debris. Run a cleaning cycle with dishwasher detergent, and do not use dishes to see if that helps.
Finally, make sure that the water inlet valve of the dishwasher turns and closes properly and to see if the child safety setting has been accidentally activated – this will also prevent the dishwasher from starting properly.
If the start relay fails the rest of the dishwasher will not receive a start signal from the control panel, the engine start relay may be faulty if power is supplied from the control circuit but the dishwasher will still not start, and if the switches are damaged or lose communication with the panel, the dishwasher will not turn on. If the switches or their connection to the control panel are damaged it may be necessary to remove the dishwasher door and replace it.
The control panel may be damaged or damp when these functions are not activated and the dishwasher does not respond when a button is pressed. When the drive motor does not work properly the dishwasher not only stops supplying water but may not start (depending on the brand) A leaking dishwasher is another problem that can be caused by a faulty pump or pump seal.
If you are an experienced do-it-yourselfer, you can fix a broken dishwasher yourself, but be sure to unplug it from the power source before opening the machine to operate it. If your dishwasher is connected to a domestic electrical outlet, turn off the breaker in the circuit box.
If enough power is available, a Maytag dishwasher that won’t start may have problems with the water supply before considering a malfunction. If the dishwasher does not turn on but the display lights come on and beeps are heard when buttons are pressed, the problem is probably with the power supply.
If it is defective, the dishes may not be cleaned and the dishwasher may not start. You may have a faulty motor if your dishwasher won’t start after the starter relay has energized it.
If the previous troubleshooting tips didn’t fix the problem and your dishwasher still won’t start, it’s best to call a certified technician to fix the issue. Once you have determined that none of these easy-to-fix issues are putting your dishwasher in the way, it’s time to call a service technician.
