My Refrigerator Is Running To Warm?

If your fridge keeps running, not shutting down when it is supposed to, it may be one of several problems that are causing this. When these go wrong, it is possible that your fridge gets too hot, causing the fridge to continue running in order to cool down. Your fridge also might have trouble keeping things cold when you set your temperature too high. Temperatures that are set too high means that your fridge will get hotter faster.

If one of those fans is not working, then your refrigerator has to work continuously in order to keep a cool temperature. The purpose of a fan is to move heat away from your condenser coils, and when the fan fails, your refrigerator is not cooling down nearly enough, and therefore, will continue running for longer than necessary.

A condenser fan circulates air over a condenser coil, helping cool down hot refrigerant coming from a compressor. The compressor is a motor that compresses refrigerant and circulates it through evaporator coils and condenser coils. A fan chills the condenser coils, usually located next to the compressor in the lower back portion of the cooler.

The compressor is the part of the fridge that compresses and pushes the vapors from the refrigerant to a coil on the outside of the fridge. The evaporator fan pushes air over the evaporator coils, cooling them, then pushing air across the freezer and fridge. The fan motor for the evaporator is located in the freezer compartment, behind the evaporator lid, and is used to move cool air through the freezer as long as the compressor is running.

To check the evaporator fan, you must disconnect the fridge and access the fan from the rear side of the back panel in the freezer compartment. After you have removed the back evaporator panel from your freezer, find the fan in the evaporator and remove the mounting clips, fan blades, and wiring sleeve.
With your cooler unplugged, locate The condenser fan motor, typically in the lower rear portion of your cooler, and take the Access Panel out. Remove the rear access panel from the refrigerator, and find the fan — it will be near the compressor. If your appliance is warmer than usual, and the compressor is running nearly constantly, you might have an issue with your condenser fan motor.

If the fridge is not cooling down hard enough, then something might have caught on the blades of the condenser fan, or your condenser fan motor might be bad. If the condenser fan does not work when it is turned on, then the refrigerant temperature rises, and your exterior walls can feel extremely hot to the touch. If the fan does not run, there is no cool air coming into the bay.

If the freezer is cold, but the fridge is hot, there is a chance the parts cooling the fridge and freezer are working correctly. The refrigerator and freezer door seals are another possible cause of the refrigerator failing to shut off. Even if everything else in the fridge is working properly, if the door seals–also called the door gasket–are defective, cold air inside the fridge can get out.

Whether your fridges doors are just not closing all the way, or the seals themselves are not sealing properly, trying to keep the refrigerator cold is a tough task if all of that cold air is getting out. Check your door seals and the location of the shelves, because damaged gaskets and shelves stuck between your fridge doors may be also causing hot air to leak in. Remember to never leave your doors open for too long, as this can trap too much hot air inside the cooler.

If your fridges interior temperature is in a normal range, but you are still having problems, the next step is to make sure that your door seals are tight. One of the first things you should do if your fridge is hot (or is not cooling down) is check around the door seals to see if they are sealed tight. If your fridge is hot, one of the first things you should do is to see if your condenser coils are dirty.

When they are dirty, they have to work harder than they normally would to get rid of heat, and that could make the fridge keep turning on continuously to help cool down. We rarely think about this, but that heat being removed from the interior of your fridge has to go somewhere, and that is what condenser coils are for — to remove that extra heat, so that your refrigerators interior stays nice and cool.

After you clean the condenser coils, just pop the lid back on, or push the refrigerator back up to the wall, and plug it back in. Remove the bottom panel or back panel of the cooler, then use the vacuum cleaner to clean any dust or debris off of your condenser coils.

Empty all items out of your freezer Unplug the fridge Follow the manufacturers instructions for accessing your condenser coils. Disconnect the refrigerator from the electrical supply before you pull off your bottom shelf (check the owners manual to find out if you can simply pull the bottom shelf straight off with no extra steps).

If your cooling system fan and compressor are working, but the fridge or freezer is not cooling properly, check to see if there is a blower airflow problem or defrost system issue. When a fan is malfunctioning, the freezer might look good, but your refrigerator looks hot. If your fridge is too full, this will prevent air circulation, which is the usual cause for hot refrigerators. Your refrigerator works by moving cold air around in order to keep the contents cold.
