My Refrigerator Isn’t Cooling And Food Is Spoiling?

Your refrigerator may be losing cooling capacity as well, as it is literally losing the coolant liquid from which the cold is generated. When your refrigerator is not cool enough, you have to worry about not only food spoiling, you are also losing power since your refrigerator has to constantly run at an excessive temperature.

When your fridge is not cool enough anymore, however, foods are left vulnerable to spoilage, which puts your family’s health at risk. A hot fridge causes wasted food, is torn too early, and generally decreases your homes health and sustainability. When your refrigerator is out of commission, this leads to spoiled food and other problems. If your refrigerator is too hot, it is not only your food that is going to spoil.

A badly frozen freezer may take a full day to defrost, so make plans to keep perishables in your neighbors refrigerator, if you can. You can expect to defrost the freezer from time to time, but if this happens too frequently, that is not a good sign. If ice jams do occur, you may want to remove the items from the refrigerator and freezer, disconnect the units for an overnight period, then reconnect them.

First, your freezer is chilled, and then a bit of cool air is forced in from the vents between your freezer and refrigerator sections. Then, room-temperature air is forced through the condenser coils, creating the cold air, which is then cycled between the freezer and the refrigerator. The coils are the most difficult working parts on the fridge, part of the process of taking hot gases and turning them into a cold liquid, which makes the refrigerator cold.

As condenser coils become dirtier, the fridge becomes less effective, making it more difficult for the fridge to keep cold. If everything else seems to work but your refrigerator is not cooling, then you have got a condenser coil issue. If the coils are dirty enough, then the refrigerator is never going to get cool enough, nor can it get the interior of the refrigerator down to a suitable temperature. The condenser is similar to the radiator, and needs to remain clean in order to move heat away from the interior of the fridge.

Just like the gasket, the walls of your cooler helps to retain cold air within your cooler. The door gasket helps keep the cool air within the fridge, preventing it from leaking.

Even if everything else about your fridge is working properly, the cold air from inside the fridge can be lost if the door seals – aka the door gaskets – are not working properly. Your fridge might be cooling efficiently, but it is losing its cool because of the unsealed doors. Make sure that nothing is blocking any circulation vents, and air is free to circulate inside the refrigerator.

Locate vents both in the freezer section, as well as in the cooler, and remove anything that may be blocking them. If your fridge model has vents from freezer to fridge, you may want to clean those out so cold air can get through. Clear freezer-fridge vents to let colder air into the freezer part.
With your refrigerator unplugged, find the condenser fan motor, typically located at the lower rear of your refrigerator, and remove the access panel. Unplug your refrigerator, and then find the evaporator fanayou can typically find this behind the refrigerator wall. Pull back your refrigerator slightly, making sure that itas still connected to the wall.

Look to see if any items or boxes are blocking vents, which can keep the cold air from moving through the fridge. If that vent is covered by withering ice, or stored food on one side, it can severely hamper the fridges ability to circulate cool air and maintain its cooling at the cooler end. Putting too much food inside your refrigerator could clog up a vent and prevent cool air from being able to circulate the way it is supposed to. If this vent is blocked, either on one side or another, then your refrigerator is not getting cool enough, and your freezer may freeze over time.

Unfortunately, you are having trouble with this refrigerators fan, as the condenser fan motor has stopped working, and all you are getting is the fridge continuing to get cool, but no cooler.

In order for your whole fridge to maintain its optimal cool temperature, airflow is needed in the fridge compartment. Most refrigerators generate all of their cold air for the freezer, so the fridge compartment is kept cool by the airflow in the gap between the fridge and freezer areas.

If you installed your home fridge in the garage, the refrigerator might not cool as well, since the garage does not have the controlled whether that a home does. The reason your refrigerator has sat idle is likely because it does not get the right circulation.

It is not good to overload your refrigerator with bears because the air circulation may become limited. A good rule of thumb is to store lots of food items in the fridge, which helps keep the temperature down, but not pack them in such a way that the air cannot circulate easily from shelf to shelf. When that door is malfunctioning, it may prevent the cold air from flowing in the refrigerator as much as it needs to in order to keep it at a good temperature.

It is only after this door switches on and is depressed, when most refrigerators revert back to cooling. The fan in the evaporator, which circulates cool air through the fridge, will begin to heat up throughout the fridge as soon as it stops working. The thermostat controlling temperature allows electricity to be passed through the compressor, the evaporator fan, and the condenser fan. This may seem obvious, but an accidental bump in or upsetting of the thermostat could decrease a fridges ability to generate cold air.
