Why Does My Dishwasher Have No Power?

If your dishwasher is still not getting power, then it may be that a fuse has gone bad, user interface controls are defective, electronic control boards are malfunctioning, or the wiring is damaged, which is stopping your dishwasher from getting power. Electrical complications may be to blame — the dishwasher just does not get power. A tripped circuit breaker is usually found as a reason for the dishwasher not getting power. Check the circuit breaker powering your dishwasher to make sure that it has not tripped.

No power When the dishwasher does not run, the front panel displays no lights, and pressing a button does not activate the dishwasher, you must check your circuit breaker or fuse.

If the dishwasher does not start, but has power, it may be stuck in the middle of the cycle. The first step to fix a dishwasher not starting is checking for the light switch. If your door is not closing properly enough for the door latch switch to trigger, then your dishwasher is not getting a trigger to begin, meaning that the light in the control panel of the dishwasher is not turning on. The door latch switches are what tells your dishwasher the door is sealed closed and that you are safe to begin the water job.

If your dishwashers door is not closing properly, you might have to remove the panel that surrounds it to inspect the parts. If the latch is broken, then the door cannot make a sound or keep the door closed anymore, meaning that the dishwasher cannot be started or operated safely. If the latch is jammed, then the latch switches cannot activate, and the dishwasher cannot start. If the selector switches or their connections to the control panel are damaged, it may be necessary to take off the doors and replace them.

If the control panel lights in your dishwasher are designed only to turn on when the door latches and release switches are working correctly, you will want to make sure that your assembly is aligned properly. If the controls panels lights are not working on yours, the first thing you should do is to make sure your dishwasher is connected correctly to a wall-mounted power supply. You may already have done that, but before starting checking for any more complex potential causes why the dishwasher is not starting, you should first check your power supply. If the dishwasher has an attached power cord, check that it is connected correctly.

If the dishwasher is plugged into an outlet correctly, it may have the potential to have the fuse blown within the plug. If it is plugged properly, you should verify the outlet is working by plugging in another appliance.

If your power cord is connected to a GFI/GFCI outlet with reset buttons, push reset on the outlet to reset the power. You will also want to press the reset button (to restore power) if you plugged the GE dishwasher into a GFI/GFCI outlet. If there is power (and an electric breaker is plugged in), test for controlling voltage.

Look inside the housebreaker box to see whether any circuit breakers have been tripped (make sure that the breakers controlling your GE dishwashers power circuit are NOT off) or to reset a fuse. If the wall switch controls the GE dishwasher, check that power is turned on. Because you cannot usually tell whether the tripped circuit breaker has been tripped, reset your dishwashers breaker, turning it off and turning it back on. Remember to disconnect your dishwasher, or disconnect it, from the inside of the electric panel, before checking the electrical components.

The dishwasher might be powered on, and timer controls might work just fine. If you notice the buttons are glowing or blinking, disconnecting the machine for a minute or two, and then reconnecting may help reset the dishwasher.

If you have pushed the Start button more than once, your dishwasher might return to a Drain cycle. When a dishwasher is stopped midway through the washing cycle, and is not properly reset or restarted, it can become stuck in this cycle, and be unable to begin the next one. Common difficulties homeowners encounter with dishwashers are problems with the machine getting no water, not draining correctly, or simply not starting.

Motor hum If your dishwasher has power and lights, but the motor is buzzing and does not begin the wash cycle, this may be an indication of mechanical or electrical problems within the unit. A button getting stuck also can make the dishwasher become unresponsive, and can result in the control panel having an intermittent light.

The door switch allows the power to be sent to your dishwasher only when you have closed the dishwasher door correctly. To test whether your door switch is defective, remove the door switch from your dishwasher and check continuity with a multimeter. You will then have to pull it out of your Fridaire dishwasher so that you can check. Testing and Replacing the Start Switch Your starter switch will require that you remove the doors.

Check that Control Lock is on, where it is. The Child Lockout function keeps your GE dishwasher from being turned on by accident. Check your cables (the power cord may be tangled up in the wall, if you have one) and do not forget to test whether your wall socket is working itself.
