My Freezer Is Running Intermittently Not Freezing Food?

Another reason the freezer is running but not freezing is the fan in the evaporator is not working properly. Located behind the ventilation ducts within the freezer, usually at the back of your freezer, an evaporator fan circulates cooling air. The fan motor of your evaporator pulls air across the coils of your evaporator and circulates it through the freezer, and if this does not work, the freezer does not get cold. To test your freezers fan motor, your freezer maintenance specialist will open your units doors and manipulate the door switches.

The purpose of a temperature-controlled thermostat is to monitor your freezers temperature, then tell the control board how much voltage to send to the evaporator fan motor and compressor to allow the freezer to chill. The temperature control thermostat directs the voltage to different parts of your freezer, and if it does not work properly, your freezer is not going to get cold. When the LG freezers thermostat is working properly, it tells your freezers control board when to begin or end the cooling process. A faulty thermostat will not send electricity to the refrigerant system, and the freezer does not get any cooling.

You might have deliberately turned up your thermostat on the fridge if you felt that it was not cooling your fridge quite as much. You may have set your fridges Thermostat much higher than you intended, which will not only result in all the items getting frozen, but will create higher power usage and higher bills.

Another reason why your Fridaire fridge might not work as it should is that your thermostat for the temperature controls has stopped working. If your condenser fan unit or motor powering the fan is faulty, then your Frigidaire freezer may not freeze. If the fan has frozen, refrigerate your freezer before turning it on again.

In doing so, the fan helps the freezer to cool by dispersing the cold air evenly across its compartment. As your refrigerators refrigerant soaks up heat and circulates throughout the cooling system of the freezer, it passes through the condenser coils. The lower pressure also helps cooling fans propel cooler air inside the freezers compartment.

That is because condenser coils are where the heat is transferred from your appliance to the surrounding air. Typically, most refrigerators also feature a condenser fan, which moves air over the condenser coils, helping make the heat-transfer process more efficient. The job of this freezer is to move air past condenser coils and distribute it across the entire unit.

The condenser coils convert the coolant from vapor into a liquid, releasing heat–the same heat that you feel when it is blowing around near your freezer during the cooling cycle. When your LG fridge is cool, but not cool enough to freeze items, it is probably because your condenser coils are dirty. One of the most common causes for a freezer malfunction is if the condenser coils in the back of the fridge get clogged with dust or ice.

If you are hearing your compressor motor running, but your freezer is not cooling at all, there may be an issue with your evaporator or condenser coils. A damaged or malfunctioning electronics control board could be the cause of many problems, but one of the most common is that the compressor and fan motors are running constantly, and therefore efficiently, stopping your freezer from closing. If you hear the compressor running, but your refrigerator is not cooling, it is most likely that you have either frost-clogged evaporator coils or an stuck or broken fan in the evaporator.

If you set the fridges thermostat for colder air, the fridges compressor will start up, forcing less air to flow through the cooling fan. Normally, your fridges condenser fan and compressor, located near the floor in the back of most fridges, turn on when your thermostat calls for more cooling.

Make sure that your appliances controls are set at 0degF (18degC) for freezers and 37degF (3degC) for refrigerators. After disconnecting your fridge, use the control panel located inside your fridge to shut down both the fridge and freezer. Your refrigerator and freezer controls will differ depending on the brand and model of your fridge, but experts suggest keeping the temperature inside the fridge at about 40 degrees F.

Using your freezer to chill hot items, or opening the freezer often, can impact temperatures inside. If your surroundings are too cold, your freezer might not have enough running time to keep the temperature. If your freezer is placed in an area that is too warm or cold, the freezer must work harder to maintain its proper temperature, and this may lead to defects developing. Namely, a Defrost Timer, a Defrost Timer is what cycles a fridges frost-free heating, so when this does not function properly, you are likely to begin seeing accumulations of ice, as the freezer will be unable to turn on the heating, so will simply be running constantly.

If your evaporator coils are frozen, then required air cannot get past it, which could cause the freezer not to defrost properly. Sealing Around Your Freezer Door The fridge door seal may be another issue when the freezer is running, but is not freezing. If your freezer door is still not sealing right after cleaning, you might need to replace your freezer seal or realign the freezer door. The compressor produces, and then circulates, refrigerant through the freezer, so if your compressor has gone bad, your freezer is not freezing.

If you do not hear the compressor clicking, and your freezer is not cooling, it may be that something is not working properly in your compressor, or in your compressors starting components.
