My Refrigerator Is Leaking Water All Over The Floor?

If the water from the GE fridge is leaking onto the floor in front of the unit, it is possible that your water supply lines are either leaking loosely or have been damaged. Another issue could be just a broken or ripped line, which is what is leaking water on the floor. The leaking may also cause damage to the floor, cabinets, and baseboards, all of which could be extremely costly to repair.

Aside from just being an inconvenience from a mess on your floors, leaks are an indication that something is wrong with your refrigerator and needs to be addressed. In this article, we are going to cover the different things that can make your refrigerator spill water onto the floor.

One of the most common causes for your Samsung refrigerator leaking water is a clogged defrost drain. If this pipe becomes clogged, the water will overflow and spill out on the floor. When the refrigerator goes into the defrost cycle, the water from melting ice will pool in the pot and run off the defrost tube that is clogged.

If the defrost pan is cracked or split, the water leaks out to the floor before it can vaporize. If the pan has a hole in it, or is cracked, water can escape from underneath the GE fridge before it can vaporize. It is not a common thing, but sometimes, the drainage pan on the bottom of the fridge may have developed cracks, which allows water to escape.

If your fridge defrosts automatically, it will also have a drainage pipe carrying this water out from the defrost process into a drainage pan underneath the fridge. The pipe running across the back of the fridge can be accessed from the rear of the fresh produce compartment, where your fridge has a small tray, approximately 2 inches square, which captures the water dripping off the freezing compartment. The defrost feature, which is found on all modern refrigerators, melts that frozen buildup, and water flows from the evaporator in the freezer down to a drainage pipe at the bottom of the fresh food compartment. If a refrigerator is perfectly flat, or tilts a little to the front, water (from condensation) might not flow to the drain.

One of the most common problems is water that is unable to reach the drain because the refrigerator is not properly leveled. If your fridge has those features, it is possible the water lines running through it are clogged or frozen.
If your fridge is on the right level, your drainage is not blocked, and yet you are still seeing daily pools, then your water line is probably at fault. If you are seeing a puddle forming directly in front of the fridge, or noticing water pouring from the fresh produce compartment when you open it, then you are having an issue with the drain line.

You might have a really easy issue, the tubing that goes across the back of your fridge to carry the water across the rear walls is probably in the wrong place, or maybe the supply lines to water at the rear are not tight. When these are done, the water may flow backwards and get flooded down the back of the fridge, of course, which causes a massive problem.

If your refrigerator is off-level, your doors are not sealed correctly, allowing water or condensation to escape. A leaking refrigerator is not something that you should be able to ignore, as any potential water damage is going to cost you a lot more money to fix the floors, etc.

In some cases, the leak may even have been caused by the fridge damaging itself. Unfortunately, since a fridge works with ice, water, and condensation, there are a number of issues that could be the reason for the leak. If your fridge has a water filter that is broken or installed improperly, this could be the reason for the leak. If your drainage tray is not damaged, and your refrigerator is not cooling correctly, then the failure of your defrost system could be the reason for your leaks and cooling problems.

Occasionally, a cracked drain pan can lead to leaks, as water, which normally boils away inside the pan, slides out of cracks. Waterline connections to your icemaker may become loose, or seals may become aged and cracked, leading to leaks, which eventually result in water accumulating underneath your cooler and around it. Other causes of your fridges leaking can include incorrect installations (such as the water filter) or damaged hardware, such as a cracked drainage pan.

This pipe can become clogged with debris, which then leads to an accumulation of ice inside the pipe, ultimately leading to water leaking out of your freezer and/or fridge. If you have blocked or clogged the drain, then condenser coils inside your refrigerator start to leak water. When particles of food or trash plug a drain, the condenser coils of the refrigerator start leaking water, because they are working overtime to get rid of the air that is being trapped by this buildup.

When the coolant cannot circulate as easily, it may pool up in a tube and cause the refrigerator to work harder than it needs to pump it out; this causes additional condensation to form around the coils, potentially spilling water onto your kitchen floor, making it appear like my refrigerator is leaking.
Water (from condensation) should flow out of the fridge to the drainage holes, and then into the drip tray below, where it is vaporized. If the drain pipe becomes clogged with whatever food particles it picked up during its journey, the water will pool over top of it, until water starts dripping right out of the door.

Things like trash, bugs, and mold will foul up the drainage/drip tray in the refrigerator, causing water in there to get backed into your refrigerator when it does not evaporate quickly enough. Leaks can happen in your refrigerators water intake valves if the components are damaged or fail, which will result in the fridges water dripping onto the floor behind your fridge.
