If the refrigerators control unit is not working properly, it may not be adjusting temperature properly so that the fridge stays cool enough for safe storage of your food.
If you are seeing ice build up in your refrigerator, or you are seeing frost at the back of your fridge or freezer, it is possible you are having an issue with your defrost thermostat, which includes a timer that signals that the system is running multiple times per day. If a defrost heater is not turning on, the frost will accumulate on the evaporator coils, and eventually, air cannot get through the coils to deliver cooling to the freezer or fridge.

The defrost feature on your refrigerator is designed to minimize ice levels in both your freezer and refrigerator compartments. Defrosting means you have to take out any items in the freezer and refrigerator, put them on the side, then disconnect the system.
Most fridges generate all of their cooling for the freezer, and then keep cooler parts in with vents between the refrigerator and freezer areas. It is standard to find most refrigerators using a fan to push the cold air from the freezer to an evaporator, then this air is forced to the fridge area to maintain the cold temperatures.
