My Ice Maker Is Getting Water But Not Making Ice?

If an ice maker is not making ice, but you see an ice-ejection arm move, and you hear a whirring sound that lasts for 10 seconds or so, then a water valve is being asked to deliver water, which is not coming. The water fill valve is turned on for a couple of seconds to refill the ice mold, and the cycle repeats. If the water fill valve has enough pressure and is receiving power, but the ice mold is not filling up with water to produce ice, change the water inlet valve. If there is more than just ice on top of the ice makers fill pipe, you may have a large amount of home water pressure needed to ensure that the water flows to the ice maker, or you may have mud or defects on the water inlet valve.

If your ice maker is not producing ice, or the ice is small or misshaped, a water fill tube could be a problem. Water may be getting into the built-in ice maker because of frozen lines, missing filters, or closed water delivery valves. Without filters, or with filters installed incorrectly in filter housings, water does not reach your fridge and water dispenser. Because water must pass through the filter, water cannot pass through it when it is filled with debris.

If your water has improved significantly, the problem is in your filter, it is time to change it. If you have a lot of hard water, you might have to replace the filter more often. Usually changing out a water filter is a simple matter of opening up your lid, twisting off and pulling out your old filter, and twisting on your new one. Some refrigerators are designed to stop dispensing ice or water when their water filters need changing. Not every fridge runs water through a water filter en route to the ice maker, but if yours does, that may be a reason. If your ice maker uses water that is passed through a water filter, and you are using a lot of ice, then you are going to have to replace your water filter more frequently. When a water filter gets dirty, it may decrease water flow into the ice maker.

Ice makers get their water from the small water line running from the fridge into the water tubing, hose, or the water filter. The smaller line leads to the refrigerators water-fill valve, which is controlled by the ice makers thermostat. The water fill valve itself will be located at either the rear of the fridge or under your kitchen sink.
The location of the water supply valve depends on the manufacturer, but the Kenmore Ice Maker water supply valve and Whirlpool Ice Makers are usually located behind your fridge. The water inlet valve is one of the more likely culprits for why your ice maker stops working, especially if you have found your ice maker is empty of potential ice.

If your water inlet system is frozen or otherwise does not function, you may notice that there is no ice, or a very small amount of ice, when looking into the ice maker. A blockage in a pipe or closed valve can easily explain a sudden ice shortage, as long as new ice cannot be made. If a whole load of ice gets stuck, there is no way to form any new ice. The water line may also pose a problem as it cannot refill a test. If the water lines are blocked, no water can get out and you cannot create your ice.

Eventually, anything that is filtering from the water coming from the tap before it becomes ice ends up in the filter. A bit of hot water (with a towel out to wipe) melts any ice clogs. Warm water melts the ice bits that are trapped, and does not add chemicals to your ice maker bowl — making it safer for you to start making ice again right in your maker.

Here, the ice chamber holds the towels for trapping any water or ice that might drop as the testing cycle runs. Look for any ice inside of the ice molds, and check to see that the motors turning the arms to release the ice are working. Check that the arm is positioned correctly and moving freely (depending on the amount of ice in the bucket). First, check if there is ice dam, some pieces of ice, or a layer of frost blocking a doorway chute.

You will also want to check your pipe for any blockages past the screen, and make sure it is not bent or bent, which could limit the water flow. Make sure that water lines are not kinked behind or under your cooler (a 1/4-inch copper hose is far better at preventing kinks than a plastic line). Make sure that the water supply is connected correctly to the cold water source, and that the water shutoff valve is completely opened.

A faulty faucet valve–the small piece of equipment that attaches your ice makers water supply line to your water line–can create problems in which your ice makers supply line attaches to your water line. If you have the thermostat set too low, your whole ice machine can suffer, freezing the water before it gets to the molds to create the ice.

The changes can keep the ice maker from getting the proper amount of water needed for making ice, and it will literally be released as ice. Changes can make sure you are never dispensing ice that is contaminated or of low quality, and you are never drinking water from the refrigerator that is unsafe or tastes terrible. Change helps to make sure the water flowing through the ice machine stays cool and clean, and it prevents bacteria from building up.
