My Washing Machine Won’t Fill With Water?
If you are getting water flowing down the pipe, but the washer is not yet full, the issue may be in the water valve. If water is very slow filling into your washer you will want to check if your water intake valve is clogged. If you notice your washer is not filling at all, then the next step is to check your water inlet valve to see if it is burned. The inlet valve controls both hot and cold water going to the washer, so if the inlet valve is having problems, then it is possible your washer is not filling enough, or at all.
When your washing machine starts to pull water from your main water supply, it goes through a fill pipe and to your inlet valve. The fill hoses of the washing machine take water from the water inlet valves to the washing machine tub, and if they are bent, water cannot get properly passed. The inlet valve attaches the hose to the washer, making sure that the machine is properly filled with water and draining. Sometimes, the hoses supplying the water may be compressed when your washing machine is placed too close to a wall.
If an adequate supply of water is available, and if the water is coming out of the fill pipe at a decent flow rate, next, check for filters at the water valves in your washing machine. If the water supply is turned on, check the fill pipe closely to make sure that no bends exist which may limit or stop the water supply reaching the machine. The hose or inlet hose that connects your appliances to your working water supply should not be bent or clogged.
The hot and cold water lines leading to your appliances should be fitted with filter screens to catch any larger particles that may pass through the lines. You should be able to see hoses coming from the rear of your washing machine, which are connected to the taps for both hot and cold water. All you have to do is shut the water off to your machine, unscrew the unit pipe off of your machine, and you should be able to see a filter screen at the rear of your machine that is connected to the hoses.
If the filter is clean on the back, then you need to inspect the water intake valves and water volume selector switches to make sure that the water intake valves are installed correctly and the buttons on the control panel are all the way down. If the water pressure switch is not working, the water pressure switch will not send the signal to activate the water inlet valve, and your Whirlpool washing machine will not fill or drain correctly. If you have a hole in the tub, this reduces pressure, causing your washers water level switch not to cut off the water inlet valves power.
The Whirlpool washers water inlet valve requires a minimum pressure of 20 PSI to work properly — anything less, and your Whirlpool washer will not fill. If you have less than 20 psi water pressure, you will have to raise the home water pressure before the Whirlpool washer can run normally again. If your pressure system goes bad, your washer may think that there is already water in the machine.
If the Drum starts spinning around with no water inside If the Drum starts spinning around like it does during the washing process, rather than being filled with water, it may have a pressure system failure. The pipes are damaged, so the water is flowing outside rather than getting into the drum. The pump forces water out the bottom of your washing machine and down your drainage pipe.
The best place to begin is at Your Washers Drain Hose — Specifically, at the Water Supply End of your tap. If you have already run water out of the washer, inspected the hose, the pump, and the cover switch, and you still cannot locate the problem, then you probably will have to call a professional plumber or washing machine repair technician to get assistance.
Sometimes, defective switches may be causing your washing machine not to fill up, and you will need them checked.
A common cause of washing machines not taking in any water is a fill pipe that is bent, or if a faucet becomes faulty (or is even turned off by accident).
The reason why your washing machine is not filling up may be that your hose has either become clogged, fallen out, or has developed a hole. If you are getting the long-term water squirt out the hose, then the problem is with a bad supply valve.
The pump faucet may occasionally become clogged with mud, which stops water flowing down the pipe, a problem that is most commonly seen on hot water faucets. Clogged filters are another thing preventing water getting to your bathtub. If the water does not flow freely, it is possible the filter is blocked, and this needs to be cleared out before proceeding.
Pull the appliances forward so that you can reach the water spigot; shut off the water and remove the spigot line; grab a bucket and open the tap to see how the water flows; if the flow is inconsistent, lower than normal, or missing altogether, there is likely an issue with the water pressure in the pipes. If a multimeter gives a reading of zero, then your valve has failed and needs replacing.
If your filters are clean, then it is possible that the issue is with valve connections, it is possible that you can check for this, but unless you have much experience in household appliances or electronics, you are better off calling in a professional washing machine repair technician.
